News From Africa

A friend of mine (Andrea Warden) who attends Providence Church is on a mission trip to Kenya.  I received a note from her today and wanted to  share it with you. Our days have been very busy! The guys have been working hard on random construction projects and we, ladies, have been building relationships with the girls at the Neema Home. Yesterday, we had a special outing to work with a middle-aged married couple from Washington named Jeff & Carla Picicci. They began doing missions work in Kenya a few years ago and the Lord gave them a very clear, great vision to begin what is now called “Rehema Ministries” (rehemaministries.com). They have a home for abandoned babies/children. Last year when they began, they had around 30 kids and have doubled in...

The Stories We Weave

»Posted by on Jul 20, 2009 in Life, Psychology, Self-Talk | 0 comments

If you know me and most of you do, you’re well versed in my mantra of  “what are you telling yourself?” and “Is this true?”  In order to move forward with emotional happiness and stability in life, we must be willing to live in the present.  We must be willing to re-frame the narrative we have each created for ourselves.  This narrative is our story and it’s only our story.  It’s not our mother’s, father’s, friend’s, boyfriend’s, husband’s, wife’s, or anyone else’s, it’s our personal story that we have created and scripted.  This means that only you can change your story.  No one, absolutely no one, can do that for you.  We create this story (remember it’s our...

Been to a Rodeo Lately?

»Posted by on Jul 17, 2009 in Life | 0 comments

So let’s talk some more about my trip out west.  Had the exciting opportunity to attend a real live rodeo conducted by professional bull riders.  Let’s see, where to begin….First of all, it’s a crash course in American patriotism.  Warning to liberals, Rodeo’s could be dangerous to your politics.    From the very get go, it’s all about apple pie, red white and blue, rugged individualism, rough riders, cattle, and talented horses.  All this with country music playing as back drop, Alan Jackson, Alabama, Willie Nelson, and others.  I was the only one in attendance of about 2000 spectators without my boots and cowboy hat.  And I do mean the only one.  The evening began with the polished announcer setting the stage for us...

The Sick MSM (Main Stream Media)

»Posted by on Jun 9, 2009 in Life, Psychology | 0 comments

Whether it’s Katie Couric’s face front and center with tears streaming down her rosy cheeks after learning that she is dead last in Nielson ratings, or the fawning reporter’s continuing love affair with BO (Barak Obama for first timers); the MSM is continuing to lose any remaining credibility. I consider the MSM to be the nightly news, (ABC, CBS, NBC), most daily newspapers, and websites belonging to said networks.   Most of you know I’m a news junkie and often surf MSM sites as well as other sites (Drudgereport.com, Foxnews.com theamericanthinker.com,  etc).  Today during one of my surfing expeditions, it occurred to me that the MSM (eg. ABCnews.com) touts perverted and sick stories disguised as news.  Most MSM  stresses and...

Commitment

»Posted by on Apr 20, 2009 in Life, Psychology, Self-Talk | 0 comments

Commitment-Successful marriages are built on an unwavering commitment that husband and wife make to each other and to God.  Without deep commitment, a deceptive, soft, comforting voice may begin playing in the background of our often unconscious self talk that grows louder and more prominent when troubles come (and they will surely come).  The self talk goes something like this; “if this doesn’t work out, I can always find someone else.” “I’m not appreciated or valued in this relationship so I’ll find someone who will offer me more happiness.”  “You never show me any attention.” The muffled volume of background self-talk sound more subtle in the beginning, but creates a potentially dangerous crack which...
