3 Key Ingredients

Posted by on Apr 19, 2009 in Life, Psychology | 0 comments

I believe it’s important to get first things first.  Without commitment to the relationship, nothing else will matter.  Marriage, like most other relationships requires intentional efforts to maintain and establish emotional and spiritual intimacy. A third cornerstone to creating harmony in the relationship requires good decision making.  These three areas seem to surface as consistent sources and root causes for developing conflict and emotional detachment.  They share a continuous thread of commonality in most troubled marriages I work with. It’s important for couples to identify practical ways to reaffirm commitment, build trust, intimacy and a solid path for the future. Hopefully these next few blogs will challenge you and at the same time offer you hope for a achieving a better, more fulfilling marriage.

Not sure what to call this….

If you’ve ever been in doubt about the wacky left,  you must look at this interview on NBC. How can any sane person draw this conclusion about the “tea parties?”   OK more on marriage tomorrow.

What’s to come….

Last night with my family during dinner and over a very lively debate about government intrusion, the meaning of torture, unions and the evil “Wall Mart,” I was upbraided by my boys for blogging too much on the political scene (read as political deception).  So, as a compliant father would do, I’m going to devote the next few days to marriage and family counseling stuff.  Hope you enjoy and share with a friend.

PS ….no more political discussions during dinner  🙂

Perpetual Campaign

Great article in the American Thinker.

And we’re stuck with a mainstream media complex so in bed with the new administration that they fête us to nonstop commentary on the Obamas’ new dog, the swing set on the White House grounds, the organic garden of the new First Lady and the exploits of the first mother in-law.  We get stories on Reggie Love, the personal gopher of the president, and how this closest-of-closest intimates to the Commander In Chief, always has Nicorette gum and mints and specialized water for the self-anointed one.  We are treated to prime time press conferences galore that are nothing more than scripted campaign stops, complete with pre-selected questioners and not a word spoken by our President without a teleprompting device.

Hopefully the April 15 tea parties will be a milestone in the American public to wake up and see what is happening.  Kate Dominick (see comments in my blog) correctly pointed out that CNN has gone off the deep end to try and depict people like you and me as right wing nuts.  If anyone saw the story, they had to see how hostile and prejudiced the reporter was. Look at this and tell me that the media isn’t in love with Barry?  Listen to the condecension and the hostility.  As if it’s wonderful that the federal government just sent his state billions of dollars.  Is that something to be proud of?  Is  this silly reporter ignorant of the fact that we pay for that stuff?  Yikes.

I seldom do this.  In fact I’ve never done it since I started blogging several weeks ago.  But,  I’m willing to take a chance and introduce you to my lovely wife.   Kathy participated in a Tea Party today and I’ve asked her to share.

Today I did something that I’m proud of–I stepped off the sidelines and got involved.  I participated in one of the many tea parties held throughout the nation.

It was tea party that truly originated with the people.  I met two men and one woman who had each organized their own grass roots movements to protest government intervention and excessive spending.

I loved reading the slogans and singing patriotic songs and listening to those who had served their country .   I loved being  among elderly, middle aged, young adults, and even teens who all agree that government is out of control.  And in this age of partisanship I loved standing side by side with Libertarians, Democrats, Republicans, and Independents.

I realize that I can’t be silent anymore.  I have to show up and speak up for what I believe.

Tea Time

Well, today’s the day.  We send more money to Washington for them to spread around using their wise and erudite discretion.  Making all things fair and equal.  Stop what you’re doing right now and look at your last pay stub.  Do you realize how much of our hard earned money is being sent away for someone else to decide how to spend?   Look up a tea party near you and get involved.  I’m going to try and attend one near Collegville at 6pm.  Yes I work during the day and can’t take off.  Hate it when I miss seeing “The View.”  Check out this cool web site.

Tax Coke

Coca-Cola that is.  The Philadelphia Enquirer, a hot bed of flaming liberal opinions, reported today that Kelly Brownnell director of the Rudd Center for Food Policy and Obesity, (yes we need the food police to be our nanny), is promoting a tax on soft drinks similar to tobacco and alcohol tax.  Unfortunately the tax will fall heavily on the poor who are typically most harmed by the sugary drinks.  While obesity among children has increased; is this an altruistic solution or just another way for the government to steal from the public?  Governments are hurting for cash because they over promise and over spend.  Solution?  Tax more of your hard earned money.  I suspect this bill will pass congress while the sleeping public comfortably and dreamily snooze.  They are already telling restaurant owners what kind of oil to fry in, requiring them to post the calories, telling them what kind of shortening they can use to bake pies. It goes on and on.  Slowly but surely the government is becoming more and more intrusive into our private lives.  Sometimes I think that people really are looking for a nanny to look aftter them and provide.  Well…what people forget is that the nanny is very expensive and inefficient.  What’s more, you and I are paying for it.

Henry Waxman, Democrat from the left coast has new plans for an EPA bill floating through congress.  If you like government running your life, you’ll love all the central planning mandates in this one. Did I mention it’s to prevent global warming?

New homes “with slanted roofs,” for instance, will be required to meet a “solar reflectance” standard if they use “fiberglass asphalt-shingle roofing.” We’re not sure what that means either, but we do know that everything in homes will also face new efficiency regulations — including furnaces, laundry machines, dishwashers, “showerheads, faucets, water closets, and urinals,” even (or especially?) jacuzzis.

One of the more revealing sections focuses on products “intended for a general service or general illumination application” — i.e., lights. This isn’t surprising coming from the politicians who decided in 2007 that the public must be protected from the incandescent lightbulb, but it is excruciatingly detailed. By 2020, “the manufacture of any general service lamp that does not meet a minimum efficacy standard” will be prohibited. That includes fixtures “designed only to be mounted directly to an art work and for the purpose of illuminating that art work.” But not “decorative lighting strings,” so Christmas trees will escape the lamp police. For now.

Environmental Protection Agency chief Lisa Jackson probably won’t be conducting the raids personally, though we trust she’ll enjoy hearing war stories about busting up the “high-intensity discharge lamp” ring back at HQ.

On that score, as early as next week the EPA will classify carbon as a dangerous pollutant under current clear-air laws, prompting a separate avalanche of new regulations. Mr. Waxman must be jealous, considering that the EPA staff wants to regulate — among literally everything that produces CO2 — “lawn and garden equipment” and “enteric fermentation” in livestock, otherwise known as flatulence.

The Obama Administration claims it is flirting with this “endangerment finding” and the economic havoc it would wreak only to force Congress into falling in line with its climate agenda. But if Democrats ever do get around to passing an anticarbon bill, Waxman-Markey is the going favorite, and so Americans should begin to understand the micromanagement over their daily lives that Congress has in store. All you have to do is read Mr. Waxman’s plan.

More American Arrogance

Great summary article  of Obama’s recent trip to Europe in which he apologized for the arrogance of Americans.  I thought he was POTUS?  See my previous posts about American arrogance.

Coldest Winter in Years….for all you global warming alarmists…

The temperature is actually dropping.  Check out the evidence.  Yet inspite of the evidence, the Obama administration recently disclosed that they are knee deep into “geoengineering” the climate.  John Holdren said one option would be shooting pollution particles into the upper atmosphere (an artificial volcano) to reflect the sun’s rays away from earth.  Once again, no I couldn’t make this stuff up.  As usual, industrial countries around the globe are falling short on pledging to slash their carbon emissions so the US will be made to finance these wacky ideas on our tax dollars.  Obama recently apologized to Europeans about the arrogance of the American people.  But really, how arrogant is it to think that we can manipulate and control the global climate with hugh fans and man-made volcanoes?  With N. Korea testing long range missles, Iran preparing a nuclear war head, pirates raiding our trading vessels in open water, the teetering of Afghanistan and Pakistan, could someone please explain to me why our attention is focused on controlling the earth’s atmosphere?
