Cypress–May You RIP

Posted by on May 31, 2009 in Life | 0 comments

Many of you have had the chance to meet our cat Cypress at some point if you’ve visited our family.  I’m sad to report that she has gone on the be with the Lord.  I won’t go into the details because they’re sketchy yet, but it was sudden.  So this is a memorial to Cypress the Cat who brought us much love and laughter.

Pets are funny things you know.  They become part of the family in many ways.  We often get so attached and focused on them that I’ve often wondered (even on this blog) if we turn to our pets  to avoid dealing with real life issues.  Dogs and cats never reject, scold, judge, or criticize you like people do. They seem to always be there when you need them (mostly when they’re hungry) and accept you for who and what you are.  This is of course unless it’s the neighbor’s dog who never seems to recognize you and barks incessantly.

But this unhealthy reliance on household pets for love and attention  is probably the exception rather than the rule.  I’m sure most people do just fine balancing their life and affections.

Cypress was intelligent, really beautiful, and a pal.  She’ll be missed. Especially the part when she would roll over on her back completely disoriented with all fours up in the air. Oh well.

Yea, I was attached.

Sonia Sotomayor–Her Racist Remarks

Ok,  I held off as long as I could before I joined in the fray about BO’s nomination to the Supreme Court of the United States.  The media is orgasmic (as usual) about her humble beginnings as a Puerto Rican immigrant growing up in Brooklyn NY. How sweet.  And don’t forget she has diabetes and will show empathy.  A woman of “color” has finally been nominated which just makes me want to weep with joy.  Never mind that the media virtually ignores her judicial qualifications (or lack thereof).  The NY Times endorsement never once mentioned a specific ruling she was involved in but referred to her humble beginnings and ability to show empathy all throughout the article.

She should be disqualified to sit on the highest court in the land.

Ford F-150 and Testosterone

Other than the fear and dread I experience when thinking about the dentist prying around in my sensitive mouth with a small pitchfork, the only other comparable pain I try and avoid is buying a car.  Our lease is up on the Highlander and so we’re shopping around to see what deals are out there post the Obama takeover of the auto industry. Aside from the unions breaking their backs, no wonder the car dealers are in trouble.  They create selling prices from a caldron of black magic that no one can understand.  I visited a Ford dealer here in West Chester and I was dismayed to find the lack of professionalism and just good common sense when it comes to the fundamentals of selling cars and trucks.  I was following up on a newspaper ad I had seen announcing a “Memorial Day” sale on the Ford F-150’s.  The one cab was listed in the ad for just over $15,000 or $ 327 lease with nothing down.  The 2 cab was listed for just over $23,000 or $368 per month lease with nothing down. These prices included rebates from the dealer and manufacturer.  Ok, I bit.  Went to the lot to inspect these trucks to see if I would be interested.  Usually trucks and truck ads on TV send my testosterone levels through the roof.

Annopolis Maryland

Kathy and I spent the night in a B and B (Gateway House) in Annapolis MD this past weekend.  I’ve never been before but enjoyed the trip tremendously.  Here’s a list of do’s and don’ts.  ( My opinion only)

Do eat at the Carol Creek Cafe.  Order the scallops.

If you eat at the popular Middleton Tavern, do not order the rockfish on stale lettuce.  Order the coleslaw, skinny fries, and steamed shrimp.  Do not dress up.  Annapolis is very casual. Don’t bring your well bred exotic  dog as everyone else did.  They are uncomfortable in the hot sun and are very thirsty.  They also poop in the street and at roadside cafe’s.

Do visit the Naval Academy and do visit the chapel and crypt of John Paul Jones.  And don’t assume that children educated in the last 15 yrs will know who he was. Don’t plan on seeing the chapel on weekends because there will be weddings.  Do walk along the main road in the Naval Academy grounds where the officers and their wives live.  Notice the screened in porches.

Do have lunch at the Ram’s Head restaurant and order the beer battered onion rings.

Do stay in a B and B and not in a  hotel.

Do visit the dock at Pusser’s in the Marriot and indulge in adult beverages over the water after dinner watching sailboats come in.

Do buy an expensive yacht and invite me and Kathy to spend the night in the Severn River on board your sail boat.  That would be a blast.  I’ll provide the refreshments.

Obama and Pro-abortion

Posted by on May 19, 2009 in Life, Politics, Uncategorized | 0 comments

BO was once again in the news for his speech at the Notre Dame graduation in which he called for us to reach “common ground” and “talk with each other” about abortion.   Why?  Does anyone really believe BO is going to compromise on his pro-abortion rights viewpoint? Not on your life.  His objective is to move conservatives to middle ground of compromise.  Does anyone in their right mind believe that his new nominee to the supreme court will try to reach common ground with those who oppose abortion?  This is another chink in the armor of conservative values.  We’re witnessing before our very eyes and ears one of the last bastions of conservative voice (Catholic Church) for the unborn life slowly disintegrate.  Most of the faculty and student body was overjoyed that he was invited, accepted, and spoke. He was met with only minimal protest and most of that from outside groups.  Should the Jews compromise and  find “common ground” on the holocaust?  Would the NAACP invite a slave owner to come and speak about compromise and opening talks about ending slavery?”  If there is nothing wrong with abortion, why compromise at all?  If it’s all about freedom and liberty and there are no moral issues involved, no compromise is necessary.  Problem is, everyone, even liberals know that it is a moral issue.  This administration spends millions of dollars, time, effort to “save planet earth.” As Matt Spivey said it so well:

President Obama continued this disconnected rhetoric by urging this generation to “decide how to save God’s creation from a changing climate that threatens to destroy it.”  Strangely, though, the president seems okay destroying one of God’s other creations.  Only in a liberal’s mind would saving the planet carry more value than saving a life.

If only they would spend 1/10 the time, effort, and dollars to save an unborn child.  Perhaps Al Gore and Michael Moore could do a documentary on the life of an unborn child?  I doubt it.

Graduation Day!

Graduation day! As most of you know my younger son graduated from law school this past Saturday.  Besides the customary platitudes, thank you’s to parents and faculty it was an exciting day  (never mind that the valedictorian in her speech, attributed a passage in the Bible, “to whom much is given, much is required”,  to, get this JFK!  Dumb Dumb. Liberals will stop at no expense to worship fellow dems even if it means stealing from the Holy Bible.

Mid Life Crisis II

Posted by on May 14, 2009 in Life, Psychology, Uncategorized | 0 comments

When my two boys left home for college the first time ( about 8 yrs ago) I was 48 yrs old. My life was moving too rapidly for me.  Where had time gone?  What had I accomplished?  Would I live another 30 yrs?  Where would I go from here?  It included all of those life and death weighty questions that more and more men are becoming aware of and are now just beginning to articulate with a little more clarity (in their own heads if not out loud).  In the past, it wasn’t really acceptable (read masculine) for men to admit their fear of mortality or their dread of aging and the bodily function failures that so often occur.  Hey I admit it, I’m scared.  So instead of admitting and discussing these apprehensive notions, we just put on gold chains, leave the top two shirt buttons “unbuttoned,”  buy new red sports cars, comb our hair over in weird looking ways to cover bald spots and spray on extra cologne. In some instances, this fear and apprehension related to discovering our mortality and feelings of low self worth lead some (present company excluded)  to test their sexual prowess once again, hence “mid-life crisis.”  I chose to go back to school and study something that has always fascinated me; psychology and the mind.

We’ve Been Had

I can’t predict the date or the time but at some point the honeymoon will be over.  And when it’s over, this charade is  going to come crashing down.  Right now BO enjoys all the adulation of a pop star. Even though some people don’t like all of his policies, even those surveyed say they like “the man.”  He has a way about him that is captivating and mesmerizing.  But I am not alone in my observations.

Debra Burlingame is the sister of the pilot who was flying American Airlines flight 77 that crashed into the Pentagon 9/11.

Given all the developments since our meeting with the president, it is now evident that his words to us bore no relation to his intended actions on national security policy and detainee issues. But the narrative about Mr. Obama’s successful meeting with 9/11 and Cole families has been written, and the press has moved on.

The Obama team has established a pattern that should be plain for all to see. When controversy erupts or legitimate policy differences are presented by well-meaning people, send out the celebrity president to flatter and charm.

I encourage you to read her full article in the WSJ. I hate it when I’m right and if you check my previous blog entry you’ll see that I was saying exactly what Burlingame has given the specific evidence for.   Don’t believe anything he says, and watch everything he does.

Believe . . . feel . . . hope.

We’d been had.

The Real Extremists

I’m tired of hearing the deceptive and misguided  refrain from democrats, mainstream media critics and party minions that in order for republicans to bounce back they need to be more “moderate.”  Recent evidence demonstrates the exact opposite. Was John McCain moderate enough for you? Obama himself (and many other democrats) was elected in part because he “appeared” to move more to the center. He talked a good “centrist” game. Words from him and other politicians are meaningless without actions to back it up.  In fact, we must only look at this administration’s actions and turn a deaf ear to the verbal rhetoric.  We need only look at comments he made In his most recent prime time news conference last week in which he said he didn’t want large government intrusion.  His actions provide evidence of the exact opposite.  Detroit auto workers, banks, and his upcoming plans to nationalize healthcare are good examples of how liberal actions don’t align with his “centrist” remarks.
