A Spade is a Spade

I’ve always disliked Senator Arlen Spector for his liberal votes and lack of back bone.  And now I like him even less since he announced today he’s finally decided to call a spade a spade and join the democratic party. In case you’re not from PA or maybe you are and you’ve been oblivious to politics, Arlen was (is) the senator that republicans voted for and sent him to the senate for the last umpteen years.  The claim is that he’s had a Damascus Road experience and  a great light from heaven has now shown and lo and behold, he is more aligned with the demo party. Duh! Nothing new there. He blamed the republicans for moving too far to the right.  Where?  When?  I’d like to meet one that’s moved to the right at all.  I must have missed the shift.  The repubublican party has never been so “moderate” (read John McCain) and look where it’s gotten us.   Conservatives and conservative values are in exile.  What’s really at stake is that like all politicians, he wants to be re-elected at all costs.  On the horizon was a conservative republican primary challenger Pat Toomey who is leading in local polls to win the primary election.  I think Specter looked at recent polling data and figured out his best chance of being re-elected was to run in the general election as a democrat.  Dear God, …..help me to know when to retire and get on with my life.

He’s politically astute to know that the most highly populated cities of  Philadelaphia and Pittsburg liberals will vote for a dem regardless of facts and evidence that demonstrate their policies aren’t working. The city of Philadelphia for example has had a democrat for mayor as long as history has records. More recently the lovable and notable  Rendell, Street, now Nutter.  The city is a mess, in debt, raising taxes, workers moving out of the city to avoid high taxes, one of the highest murder rates in the country.  That’s the stats.  You should live here.  Roads in terrible condition, no planning, and none in sight. Public transportation in the subway smells like a overflowing urinal in the heat.  My point is, if the policies and strategies of the dems actually worked, why are our cities like Philadelphia, Detroit, and who can forget New Orleans, in such a mess?  These places have been a democratic laboratory for years and years.  I know, I know, it’s “W’s” fault.  So finally Arlen had called a spade a spade and officially recognized what his conservative constutuents have known for years, he’s a liberal.
